Loud electric tea kettle? by Bill Gill
I am considering replacing my stove top tea kettle with an electric to save energy. However I have some high frequency hearing loss and can't hear the average whistling tea kettle. Can any one recommend an electric that makes a loud enough sound so I can hear it when it boils? My current stove...

Health Insurance Misery by Artys
Hello all, Well, I have just been told that if I try to change to another insurance company, it will not be a "grandfather", and its rates will go sky-high for me. I have good health. This makes me feel trapped. How would you feel?

aarp motoring plan by [email protected]
I bought the Premier Road 'N Tow membership in AARP Roadside Assistance from Allstate because it is about $20 cheaper than AAA and offers 100 mile towing. My question is whether there are an adequate number of participating garages in New England. I occasionally drive from Vt to Boston and would...

a frugal Veterinarian ? by VFW
I would call first and see how much they charge for a Rabies shot. We checked around. the shot itself costs the Vet. about $1.65 A "Shot Clinic" charges about $11 for a cat. Others charged $22, appointment necessary. And one wanted $50 . Now, guess who really cares about making pet care...

SSN for Job Applications by Napoleon[_2_]
More and more people are asking for your social security number when you fill out a job application. I always decline and write "upon hire" instead. I remember in the 80's and early 90's that the SSN was only given after you were hired to prove that you could work in the USA (of course other forms...

Recipe by MAS[_2_]
I don't bake much. As a matter of fact, the kitchen is foreign territory. When an oatmeal cookie recipe calls for 2 cups of oatmeal, does it mean quick cooking oats or regular oats? If it calls for chocolate chips, do I use unsweetened or sweetened? Muchos gracias. Marsha

Public Service Announcement by Gary Heston
Apparently, based upon my experience yesterday, using Lysol spray in a fairly small (~10' x 10') room and leaving the door closed can trigger carbon monoxide detectors. I had one start alarming and another showing screwy readings (there is no possible CO source in the house at the moment). As to...

This is one good reason I hate God by SparkoHeaps
Many thanks Lou. I am reminded all over again why I always hated linguistics. What a total waste of time to ever make a study of languages. You'd like the lolcatbible then.

Why I don't post in moderated groups by His Highness the TibetanMonkey, Creator of the Movement of Tantra-Hammock
(You know, gone are the days of the hunter-gatherer, when everyday was an adventure. Now we live in boredom and junk food, but there's still a realm for real hunting: the Internet. Not everywhere in the Internet, but in the UNmoderated groups where you can throw your arrows and spears. The big...

Replace internal DVD-RW on Dell Inspiron 5000 rather than buy a newlaptop? External or internal and compatibility? by mike[_8_]
Not sure where else to post this. Here seemed like a good place. I've got a Dell Inspiron 5000 laptop and it's served me well for about 5 years. Had to replace the hard drive once, but I got a higher speed one and have been pleased with it. Now the DVD-RW has died. Rather than purchase a new...

Best solder free electrical connection by john hamilton[_3_]
I have to connect this AAA battery holder to a toy. Although I have a small soldering iron, my soldering skills are poor. I can see myself easily melting all the plastic around the contacts before I can get anything to stick to the tabs. (The part of the tabs with the small hole will bend...
