Property Tax Surprise. by Jeff Thies
I appealed my property taxes last year and just got the new bill. Last year it was ~$1,400. This year, $33.43. Take that OhioGuy! The house value fell by about 2/3 and it was enough for the exemptions to cover most of the assessed. The world is run by loons.

Cancelling CompuServe - Gonna Have Issues? by Coffee's For Closers[_3_]
I have a Compuserve account that I'm not using now. However, I have heard that there may be some resistance to just saying, "Please Stop." This is especially worrying since it has a monthly automatic payment from my checking account. I have heard that CompuServe has a reputation of failing to...

$86 for school pictures (x2) by Ohioguy
Got our credit card bill today, and at first I didn't recognize duplicate charges from one company. My wife recognized it, though - school pictures, $86 each. Now I remember, about 3 weeks ago, arguing about the cost, but eventually giving in. We have a lot of relatives, and my wife wanted...

Don't flush for "number one"? by Bill
I got to thinking how much water we use by flushing the toilet each time we go "number one"... The internet says we typically go "number one" 7 to 13 times a day... A newer water saving toilet uses 1.6 gallons of water per flush (gpf). At 10 flushes per day, that would be 16 gallons a day. Or...

property tax appeal denied by Ohioguy
The last time we purchased a house, the city set the property valuation at the most recent sales price for about 3 years automatically, before it started inching up a bit. This time around, me moved to a new city, and we purchased a house at public auction through HUD. We got the high bid...

In the mail today I got a notice from the police department of a neighboring city. It was informing me that I owed them $85 for driving too fast - ~66 in a 50 mph zone, calculated by traffic light cameras. This is on a limited access "connector", which still has about 10 intersections as it...
