"Promote the general welfare of the United States" - doesn't meanwhat leftists think by K[_3_]
The clause in Article I Section 8 does not mean to provide goods and services to people. It means to promote welfare - the interests - of the United States of America as a political entity - that is, as a nation.

Bewildering auto insurance rates by KenK
As I mentioned before, I'm looking for insurance for my new-to-me car. I sure don't understand the widely varying rates for the same coverage. From AARP/Hartford with no local agent, $568 a year, Central Insurance ompanies, with a local agent, $691 a year, all the way to Farmers with local agent...

Good man's electric razor? by KenK
Any suggestions for a good reasonably priced man's electric razor? I currently am using a cheap Braun MobileShave - no trimmer and cuts poorly. Before that Norelco and Remington rotaries among others. None cut well. When I was much younger I used a rotary Norelco happily for many years in the...

AARP/Hartford auto insurance? by KenK
After a large increase in my Farmers policy after a vehicle upgrade I found that AARP/Hartford auto insurance is 1/3 the cost of Farmers for much the same coverage! I will fine tune the quote soon to get an exact comparison. In the meantime, Anyone have any problems with AARP/Hartford auto...

Mop drying rack or device? by [email protected]
Is there a device for quick drying of a mop? I mean a traditional mop with rope-like strands, head not remove-able. I seem to have irradicated some snow fleas by caulking up edges of a sink and bathtub, and I don't want to create a hospitable environment for them to return by taking several days...

Don't believe expiration date on eggs by anthona
Recently i purchased a dozen large eggs with the dater approx. 2 weeks from day of purchase. I've used up about 4 eggs with no problem, but I came across this article about testing the freshness of eggs by putting them in cold water, and if they float, discard them...they are bad. Just for kicks...

Auto insurance complaints by KenK
Seriously thinking of changing from Farmers to AARP/Hartford car insurance to get cheaper rates. Googled AARP/Hartford auto insurance complaints Some real stunners! Then tried Geico, Farmers, Progressive, etc. Same thing. Seems there are problems with all of them? Guess I'll have to switch to...

Miss Manners on "who pays, who gets what" by [email protected]
It's from 1985. Just stumbled on it. I thought it was pretty interesting when it comes to certain modern confusions. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1985-09-11/entertainment/8503010589_1_wine-list-paying-steak Dear Miss Manners--I took my friend Sam to a fairly expensive place for dinner,...

Credit card security by KenK
I'm begining to wonder how to pay for groceries, etc. any more, with all the security breaches such as Target's and many others. I shop mostly Walmart for groceries and other stuff they carry. (Price is important to me on my slender income.) If I use checks I suspect the store keeps a record of...

Food costs verses gardening of any form by Vandy Terre
Now you could go crazy and purchase lots of equipment/ chemical fertilizers/ chemical pest control or you could work a little harder on hand preparing the soil and go organic in fertilizer/ pest control. One large pot with one healthy continuing production tomato plant could cover the needs of one...

Micorwave went south and now we need by anthona
a replacement, mostly for reheating and on rare occasions cooking a tv dinner. This MW lasted just barely 2 1/2 years and just completely stopped. We don't want another one. Looking into toaster ovens, but there are so many and so many different prices. All we want is something that can cook baked...

Why use Santa as an excuse? by [email protected]
I Googled quickly and didn't see anything. When I was little, my parents let me know that Santa only brings the candy in the stocking, presumably so I'd thank the right people for the presents under the tree - but maybe also to spare the post office my letters and avoid visits to Santa at...

Repairing a dead TV by Bob F
I recently picked up a non-working 50" plasma TV using Craigslist. I brought it home, then researched the model #. After finding that this particular TV had a major habit of blowing up multi-hundred $ boards, I set it aside figuring I would just recycle it. The other day I decided to haul it...
